GLENN GOULD BACH FELLOW 2021-23
TANJA TETZLAFF
Cellist Tanja Tetzlaff has been a defining musician of her generation for decades, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. Over the course of her career, she has performed as a soloist with Daniel Harding, Philippe Herreweghe and Sir Roger Norrington, among others. Her particular trademark is an extraordinarily broad repertoire, including above all compositions of the 20th and 21st centuries. Tanja Tetzlaff studied with Heinrich Schiff at the Mozarteum Salzburg, among others.
Starting April 2021, over the next two years, Tanja will realize a film project that relates Bach's famous cello suites to nature and climate change, exploring ideas of culture, inheritance and responsibility. In addition to her concert activities, Tanja has long been involved with environmental issues – and can now combine her two great passions through this wholly unique project.
One of the central parts of Tanja's project will involve the development of an ambitious new series of films, in which she will explore Nature through Bach and Bach through Nature. The films will celebrate the music of the Baroque, whilst, at the same time, engage with people's concern for preserving the precious inheritances of nature and culture, that are the wellsprings of life.
Tanja will undertake the following Fellowship milestones:
April 2021: Fellowship begins
September 2021: special ceremony at the Thuringer Bach Festival
October 2021: Mid-year presentation before Monitoring Committee.
April 2022: completion of the first part of the Fellow's Project. Presentation at Thuringer Bach Festival 2022.
October 2022: Mid-year presentation before Monitoring Committee
April 2023: Presentation of completed project at the 2023 Thuringer Bach Festival.
